LIVING CHRISTMAS TREES
We also offer the Leyland Cypress as a living Christmas Tree. These are containerized and transplantable after Christmas. These trees are in 30 gallon containers and are 6 to 7 feet tall.
COMPLETE CARE AND PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIVING CHRISTMAS TREES:
INDOOR CARE: Select a well-lighted location away from fire places, ceiling vents and other heat sources. Put a double hand full of ice on top of the container each morning (and evening if necessary) and protect your floor from water runoff. It can also be misted with water using a plastic spray bottle. More ice can be added if the tree begins to look dry.
OUTDOOR CARE: The Leyland Cypress Christmas Tree will grow in a wide variety of soils and does well in a pH range of 5.5 to 8.5. However, the soil must be well drained. If it is planted in soil that stays wet it will not survive. Plant in full, to partial sun. It can reach heights of 20 to 30 feet. Dig a hole twice as wide, but no deeper than the tree's container. Mix the dirt from the hole half and half with pine bark or other mulch. Remove the container and place the root ball in the hole. The tree should be the same depth in the ground as it was in the pot. Rough up sides of the root ball to slightly loosen the roots. Put the dirt/mulch mix back in the hole and tamp carefully to eliminate air pockets. Use excess dirt to build a small dam around the hole so the water applied to the tree won't runoff. Water thoroughly. Fertilizer: Apply your favorite fertilizer beginning when the tree shows new growth. Follow directions on the fertilizer container regarding application rates and frequency. Water thoroughly.
Watering: Water the tree once or twice a week depending on rainfall and temperature. In hot, dry periods, the tree will require more water and a soaker hose is recommended. Enjoy!
